Video Exploration/ Artist Chats

Program designed to help dancers learn about the Israeli culture, the creative process, and develop a personal artistic voice. This will be done through video explorations and in-depth discussions led by the Koresh dance artists, Roni Koresh and guest collaborators.

DAY One: Israeli Culture / Roni & Koresh Style

Guest: Artistic Director, Roni Koresh

Topics:

  • What is folk dance?

  • What is Roni’s connection to folk dance?

  • What are the motifs and nuances you see with folk dance in the work?

Day Two: Creative Process - Part 1

  • What is your experience with text/spoken word in dance?

  • What lenses are you focusing on when watching a piece?

  • How did change of music in the video versions shift the meaning for you?


Day Three: Creative Process - Part 2

Part 1: Gesture phrase is created for dancers to manipulate

Part 2: Discuss importance of gesture within Koresh’s movement

Part 3: Show and Tell: Have dancers show their gesture phrases and have them repeat with different prompts. Discuss how different choices result in a different dance.


Day Four: Finding Inspiration

    • Watch Creation of “Evolution” as a turning point in choreographic career

  • Evolution/change of Roni’s style

  • Inspiration from other companies/choreographers

  • Similarities/differences with choreographic expression

Day Five: Developing your artistic voice

  • What influences your artistic voice?

  • How do you keep your artistic voice alive and pass down to future generations

  • How do you find your own voice in a work vs being a conduit for the choreographer?

Homework: Day six covers lighting. Come back with a video from a performance that you think was enhanced with the use of lighting.


Day Six: Significance of Lighting
