Class Descriptions
Pre Ballet (4-6):
Pre-Ballet is for dancers between the ages of 4-6 and serves as an opportunity to introduce younger students to the basic ballet vocabulary. In this class, students will learn simple coordination, musicality, rhythm, and concentration. Dancers are encouraged to explore the space and have fun learning the new movement.
Ballet 1 (7-11):
This class is intended for beginners between the ages of 7-11 and covers the fundamentals of classical ballet technique. This formal setting will give students the discipline necessary to mature as a dancer. The class will emphasize the importance of strength, flexibility, rhythm, musicality, and memorization. This class will also encourage dancers to explore the basics of performing.
Ballet 2 (12-16):
Ballet 2 is intended for dancers between the ages of 12-16 with some background knowledge of ballet. Within this class, students will gain a full understanding of ballet vocabulary. This class will push dancers to be more self-disciplined as it will include pre-pointe work (with the permission of the instructor).
Ballet 3 (16-18):
Ballet 3 is intended for committed dancers between the ages of 16-18. This class will introduce more difficult technique. Dancers are encouraged to strive for grace and poise as this class emphasizes the importance of performance quality. Dancers taking Ballet 3 can also take Pointe (with the permission of the instructor).
Ballet 4 (16-18):
This is an advanced-level ballet class designed for dancers ages 16-18. This class is intended for disciplined and committed dancers who possess the desire to dance and are working towards a professional level. This class will emphasize taking dancers to the next level and will include pointe work.
Pointe 2 (16-18):
This class is designed for dancers ages 16-18 to work specifically on their pointe work and further their ballet technique. This class will include strengthening exercises to ensure proper technique when on pointe, as well as learn various variations within classical ballet.
Modern Jazz 2 (13-16):
This fun and energetic class is intended for dancers between the ages of 13-16. The class includes a warm-up, stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises, as well as moves across the floor. Classes incorporate a combination in order to emphasize memorization. This is a great class for beginner dancers looking to improve upon coordination and technique.
Modern Jazz 3 (16-18):
Modern Jazz 3 is for advanced dancers between the ages of 16-18. This class follows a similar structure to Modern Jazz 2 with a warm-up, stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises, and moves across the floor such as turns, leaps, and jumps. Each class ends with a fast-paced combination in order to prioritize memorization and attention to detail.
Modern 2 (13-16):
This class is designed for dancers ages 13-16 with some dance experience. Emphasis is placed on spatial awareness, floor work, weight shifting, and traveling. Elements of Graham and Limon technique are included as dancers practice dynamic and expressive interpretations of movement.
Modern 3 (16-18):
This is an advanced, fast-paced technique class that focuses on self-expression of movement and is designed for dancers between the ages of 16-18. Floor work, qualitative movement, improvisation, inversions, and beginner partnering skills are covered throughout the year. The class incorporates elements of Graham, Limon, Klein, and Horton in order to offer the students a broad range of contemporary dance concepts.
Hippity hop (5-7):
This class serves as an introduction to hip hop dance for younger students from ages 5-7. This relaxed setting uses games and music to focus on elements such as rhythm, musicality, and basic footwork. This class is a great way to get kids moving and having fun exploring a new style of dance!
Hip Hop 1 (8-11):
This class teaches the fundamentals of hip hop to dancers between the ages of 8-11. Dancers will learn proper stretching, isolations, rhythms, musicality, upper body strength, and footwork. Students will learn to memorize new choreography in this upbeat and high-energy class.
Hip Hop 2 (12-16):
Hip Hop 2 is designed for dancers ages 12-16 who know the basic fundamentals of hip hop. This high-energy class will focus on refining the dancer’s technique through more complex rhythms, musicality, coordination, and footwork.
