Koresh School of Dance – Class Descriptions

Since 1993 the Koresh School of Dance has offered open classes in dance instruction for adults. Our Center City Philadelphia studio at 2020 Chestnut Street boasts two sprung floor dance studios and large dressing rooms, with classes held seven days a week. We offer more than 35 adult classes in a wide variety of movement instruction, including tap, ballet, jazz, modern, modern jazz and hip hop. Our instructors are widely regarded as some of the best in the city.
A classical dance form characterized by grace, precision of movement and elaborate formal gestures, steps and poses. Coordination, strength, flexibility, rhythm and musicality are all emphasized. Ballet shoes required.
Typically the style of dance you see on Broadway, concerts or television. Students warm up with stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises, and "across the floor" exercises such as turns and leaps.The class ends with a combination that is usually fast-paced and danced to popular music. Jazz shoes are optional; socks or bare feet acceptable.
This style of dance reflects the style of Koresh Dance Company. Modern Jazz classes encompass components from jazz, modern and ballet techniques. No shoes required; bare feet acceptable.
Inspired by street dance styles, this class is by far our most popular. Isolations, stretching, rhythms, upper body strength and funky footwork are all emphasized. Instructors may incorporate elements from popping, breaking, locking and house dance. Each class ends with learning choreography to popular music. Sneakers required.
A type of dance in which sounds are created by clicking the metal taps on the soles of a dancer's shoes. Fundamentals include shuffles, time steps, flaps and basic rhythms. Tap shoes required.
